The most watched football league is back after a two week international break. The blogger is also back to give an insight on what he thinks is going to happen this time out.

1- LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER CITY

Usually the international break comes at a wrong time for clubs but for liverpool it came at the right time. As it gave them a full two weeks to work on the fitness of several key players including inspirational captain Steven Gerrard. As a result Gerrard is well rested and fit to play and the onus will be on him to make sure that liverpool see off the cash rich city as they are now posing serious threats to liverpool’s top four status. This might also be the full debut of Alberto Aquailani and with Jhonson and Agger also back i think liverpool will nick this one.

MY CALL: LIVERPOOL 2-1 MAN CITY

2- BURNLEY VS ASTON VILLA

Burnley finally got an away point last time out as they came from behind to level up late against man city at the east lands. At home they have lost only one so far and are very strong at the Turf More. But Villa are not an easy side to play against with loads of pace and amazing counter attacking powers. I expect the likes of Agbonlahor and Young to cause loads of problems to the burnley back four and conjour up a win for the travelling villa side.

MY CALL: BURNLEY 1-2 VILLA

3- CHELSEA VS WOLVES

Chelsea have set the ground running in the first twelve matches of their premier league season. With only one goal conceded at home so far in all competitions they are once again reaching the home comforts they enjoyed under Jose Mourinho. This week however, they’ll be missing the likes of Lampard and may be drogba but the fixture list has thrown up an ideal fixture as Wolves might still be not good enough to stop chelsea.

MY CALL: CHELSEA 2-0 WOLVES

4- HULL CITY VS WEST HAM

Hull players gave a new lease of life to their under fire manager Phil Brown last time out as they came from behind to beat stoke city 2-1. West ham however crashed to a defeat at home to everton 3 days after beating Villa at the same venue. This match has massive value in terms of league position for both sides as only one point separates the two teams at the moment. Ill sit on the fence on this one.

MY CALL: HULL 1-1 WEST HAM

5- BIRMINGHAM VS FULHAM

Birmingham city and Fulham are similar in so many ways. They both defend well, work hard and are extremely efficient. Birmingham had a problem of scoring goals but recently they have scored some including two against liverpoool last time out at anfield. Fulham don’t travel well but i still think they will nick a point. Score draw for me.

MY CALL: BIRMINGHAM 1-1 FULHAM

6- SUNDERLAND VS ARSENAL

Arsenal were the biggest losers in the recently concluded international break as they lost their best goal scorer in Robin Van Persie to an injury. Van Persie had so far been having a great season by both making and scoring goals. This might turn out to be a big loss to arsenal as they looked to mount a serious tittle challenge. With sunderland good at home i think this will be a tough one for arsenal to win.

MY CALL: SUNDERLAND 1-1 ARSENAL

7- MANCHESTER UNITED VS EVERTON

Louis Saha returning to Old trafford is the first biggest excitement about this match as he is now scoring goals something he didn’t do in his time at Old trafford. Sir Alex will however be relieved to have Vidic back as United have been leaking more goals then expected. Rooney is also fit and functioning very well in the new scheme of things and with everton’s defence still without Jagielka I expect united to win this one.

MY CALL: MAN UNITED 1-0 EVERTON

8- BOLTON VS BLACKBURN

Blackburn have an aweful away record while Bolton are very good at home. Blackburn’s problems tend to increase both at offence as well as defence when they travel away from eewood park. Bolton will thrive on that and as we all know they are a very physical side so things will be made extremely tough for the lancashire rovers. I expect a home win for bolton.

MY CALL: BOLTON 2-0 BLACKBURN

9- TOTTENHAM VS WIGAN

Spurs and Ireland captain Robbie keane had to face the heart break in mid week as his country failed to make it to the world cup in some very very controversial circumstances. He might be rested in this one meaning defoe and crouch start upfront. Wigan will struggle to cope with the pace of defoe and the height of Crouch and with the match being at white hart lane i expect spurs to win this one.

MY CALL: TOTTENHAM 3-1 WIGAN

10- STOKE CITY VS PORTSMOUTH

After twelve matches portsmouth still sit at the foot of the table and are still struggling to put a string of results together in their favor. Stoke city as we know are one of the best at home as they play football at their own terms and don’t let the other side to dominate or force their style of football. Paul Hart thinks he can change the fortunes of the Pompey but i don’t think much will change in this fixture. Stoke to win.

MY CALL: STOKE 1-0 PORTSMOUTH

World Cup Qualifiers are approaching towards their final end, with Play-offs going on, by the end of the week we will know which teams are going to South Africa. Here are a few of qualification games, their results, implications and highlights.

NEW ZEALAND vs BAHRAIN

The 2nd leg of the Play-off was played in the West-pac Stadium. The first leg had finished at 0-0. In the final minute of the first half Rory Fallon headed in a corner to give hosts the lead. However Bahrain had a golden opportunity to equalize in the 51st minute through a penalty kick. However, Sayed Adnan’s weak shot has easily saved the the keeper Patson. A draw was enough for Bahrain, as they would have progressed due to the away goal rule. But New Zealand held on for a memorable victory that ensures that we will be seeing them in South Africa 2010.

EGYPT vs ALGERIA

With Play-offs scrapped by African federation in world cup qualifiers, one had to top its group to qualify. This top of the table clash meant that Egypt had to win 3-0 to qualify courtesy their inferior goal difference, and a 2-0 result would result in a Play-off at a neutral ground. Anything less by egypt would mean that Algeria go through to finals. Odds were in Algeria’s favour but Egypt showed real intent as Amr Zaki put them infront early on. However Algeria looked to have done enough for rest of the game, until dramatic final moments when Substitute Moteab scored in 5th minute of injury time and sent the home crowd in frenzy. A Play-off game in Sudan will now decide which team makes it to the World cup.

GREECE vs UKRAINE

The 2oo4 european champions Greece went head to head with Ukraine. The game ended in a goalless draw. The Greek defender Kyrgiakos came close in the final moments with a headed effort.

RUSSIA vs SLOVENIA

The first leg of the game was played in Russia. Russians got the Lead through midfielder Bilyaletdinov on 40mins. Pavlyuchenko slid in the pass which was followed by a beautiful turn and finish by Bilyaletdinov. After the half time the everton man doubled russia’s lead. However drama was seen at the end when Pecnik headed home a crucial away goal on 87mis to make the scoreline 2-1. This makes the 2nd leg very intriguing.

REPUBLIC of IRELAND vs FRANCE

The french were up against a very determined Irish side, which has given some inspired performances under Giovanni Trapattoni. The french got the lead through Nicolas Anelka’s deflected shot. They take the lead into Wednesday’s 2nd leg and with the away goal on thier side France are favourites to qualify.

PORTUGAL vs BOSNIA

A crucial game with Portugal in their home without their captain Cristiano Ronaldo up against a very talented Bosnian side. Bruno Alves headed home the only goal of the game on 31st minute mark. Bosnians hit the woodwork twice in the second half when Edin Dzeko headed against the bar and Sanel Jahic hit the rebound against the post. Teams now travel to Sarajevo for the 2nd leg with Portugal starting as favorites.

With World Cup qualifiers completed and only play-offs remaining, a number of big teams had already qualified. This international break thus provided an opportunity for some juicy clashes. I will be looking at Spain vs Argentina and England vs Brazil games.

SPAIN VS ARGENTINA

Santiago Bernabeu, Spain

The European champions faced Diego Maradona’s team at Real Madrid’s famous Bernabeu Stadium. Both teams went into this game with thier best available sides. Fernando Torres was unavailable for Spain, they started with a strong five man midfield with Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta and Silva, with Fabregas on the bench. For Argentina Sergio Aguero was on the bench, Real Madrid’s Higuain led the attack supported by Lionel Messi.

Spain took the lead early when Xabi Alonso smashed the ball into net in the 12th minute. Keeper saved David Silva’s low shot but it fell straight into Alonso’s path who made no mistake. Both teams created opportunities for themselves but could not find the finishing touch. Maxi Rodriguez went down in the box in 60th minute giving Argentina a controversial penalty. Messi scored to make the score level. But Spain got a themselves a penalty kick in 85th minute after Martin Demichelis handled the ball. Alonso converted the penalty for his and Spain’s second.

ENGLAND VS BRAZIL

Doha, Qatar

This game in Doha saw many of big names missing out. There was no Ronaldinho, Pato or Robinho in the brazil line-up. England were missing a host of regulars with Gerrard, Lampard, Lennon, John Terry and Rio Ferdinand all side-lined. England started with Darren Bent supporting Rooney. The game was settled by a solitary goal when Nilmar headed home in second half from a pin-point ball played by Elano. Brazil had a chance to double their lead but Luis Fabiano blasted his shot high from the penalty spot.

Last week the blogger got 7 out of the 10 results right including the north london derby. As we gear up for another massive weekend which includes the clash of the top two teams chelsea and man united its time for predictions again.

1- BLACKBURN ROVERS VS PORTSMOUTH.

Rovers conceded 5 at chelsea and 2 at man united while drawing a blank on the other end of the pitch. If they have to stay up they have to win their home matches against teams like portsmouth. Portsmouth however, have started to win matches and get points. Dindane the ivorian striker was awesome last time out for the fratton park outfit. As they travel to eewood park i expect them to take a point from rovers.

MY CALL: BLACKBURN 1-1 PORTSMOUTH.

2- ASTON VILLA VS BOLTON

Villa along with man city and tottenham are the three teams trying to break into the top four. But as liverpool have struggled to gain points Villa haven’t capitalized at all. They have taken only 2 points of their last 3 epl matches and they need to start picking up points before liverpool get on a roll. Bolton however are functioning extremely well under Gery Megson who for me has got the skill and ability to keep bolton safe and sound. However this might just be a tough one for the wanderers.

MY CALL: ASTON VILLA 2-1 BOLTON

3- MAN CITY VS BURNLEY

As mentioned about villa, man city have also missed a trick as well in the last month or so. They have drawn their last 3 matches and this match is an ideal opportunity to put the record straight and get on track. Burnley are yet to win a point let alone a match away from home. Man city have a potent strike force and they should score more than a couple to win this one comfortably.

MY CALL: MAN CITY 3-0 BURNLEY

4-TOTTENHAM VS SUNDERLAND

Bent left tottenham in great acrimony with the manager Hary Redknapp and the club hierarchy. So, when he goes back to the white hart lane he’ll be in for a lot of stick from the spurs fans. That apart sunderland’s defence is weak they concede a lot of goals and rely too much on their forwards jones and bent to score more than they concede. Spurs who have lost the last two they’ll be desperate to win this one.

MY CALL: TOTTENHAM 3-2 SUNDERLAND

5- WOLVES VS ARSENAL

Arsenal are playing out of this world kind of football at the moment. They lost to the two manchester sides earlier in the season but in all fairness they could have won those two as well. The only problem with arsenal is that they don’t close out the games when they get ahead. Against a side like wolves they’ll have to be tough and physical but i think they will have enough in terms of quality to see of a nice mick mcarthy side.

MY CALL: WOLVES 0-2 ARSENAL

6- HULL CITY VS STOKE CITY

Hull’s manager is a very lucky person to be still in charge of the hull side considering their form since last december. Duffen the chairman is gone now and if Phil Brown doesn’t start to get the results he will be out of office very soon. On the contrary Tony Pulis, is safe with a very sound team. Stoke don’t really travel well and with hull fighting for their lives i guess it might be a home win for hull to give Brown a lease of life.

MY CALL: HULL 2-1 STOKE

7- WEST HAM VS EVERTON

The hammers got a fantastic result in the midweek against villa at home. But with Carlton Cole out injured the question is who is going to score the goals for the east london side. Everton also have a lot of players out injured but if louis saha is fit then they might be able to score a few. West ham might struggle but i have a feeling they will be able to sneak out a draw not a bad result considering Cole is out.

MY CALL: WEST HAM 1-1 EVERTON

8- CHELSEA VS MAN UNITED

On sunday evening the two giants of english football collide in what could turn out to be a season defining match for the epl overall. Chelsea are at home and they haven’t dropped a point in all competitions at home. Drogba is the key for me since united will be without Ferdinand and that might well be the bone of contention for United. However united do have Rooney and he is a match winner. I think chelsea are out right favorites to win and on paper and on form they should win this one. But considering the way this league is teams get results where they virtually have no right to. I think United will do enough to get a point. Score draw for me.

MY CALL: CHELSEA 2-2 MAN UNITED

9- WIGAN VS FULHAM

Fulham struck a jack pot last time out as they got the scalp of liverpool at home albeit in controversial circumstances. Wigan are a mystery to me, one week they beat chelsea 3-1 and on another day they come unstuck against portsmouth. But fulham struggle away from home and this wigan side tries to play proper football under Roberto Martinez. Rodellaga is in good form and that is why i am predicting a home win for Wigan.

MY CALL: WIGAN 2-1 FULHAM

10- LIVERPOOL VS BIRMINGHAM CITY

Liverpool’s run of results has baffled me like all other epl fans. In my opinion they have been extremely unlucky with the injuries and when you have so many players out including your captain teams are supposed to struggle. However against lyon i thought liverpool were fantastic. They were dominant throughout the match but then conceded a cheap goal at the death. Aqualani might make his debut in this one and as city dont travel well i expect liverpool to win this one before the international break.

MY CALL: LIVERPOOL 2-0 BIRMINGHAM CITY

I’ll be as simple, straightforward and to the point as I can be. The crucial month of October changed many things. Injuries, inconsistency in form, shock defeats against weak oppositions, protests, and what not that could derail any club (especially the one who is under a league title drought for two decades now) from it’s ambitions to fight for the league.

With the defeat against Fullham, the fight for the league title seems a lost cause: five defeats in eleven games made even the strongest of reds fans go ‘it’s over’ ‘we’re out of it’.

I say no, it’s not over. Hell, its not even nearly over yet. The fun has just started!

Why? A few simple facts which I want to list:

Fact 1: Last league title (1989-90) came to Anfield with Liverpool loosing five games and drawing ten with total points 79. (Fun fact: Last season, Liverpool drew just 1 more and lost three less and got 86 points but didn’t win the league).
Point to be noted: Five league defeats (even if the come in the first eleven games) in no way means a title shot is over.

Fact 2: 2000-01 season saw Liverpool slump to six defeats and eight draws, gathering 80 points and finishing the season runners up. (Sub-fact: Arsenal, who won the league that season, lost two and drew nine games, more than what Liverpool did last season(Liverpool didn’t win))
Point to be noticed: Analysts said last season, being the team who plays the best football (no argument on who played the best football last season, it was Liverpool F.C.) doesn’t guarantee it a league title, points guarantee that. Surely, Liverpool can get the points (and still) play the best to win the league as for the current situation in the league table.

I can list a few more of statistics here but I won’t. Bottom line: Nothing is over yet, neither the title hopes, nor the overall season (contrary to what the WHOLE media is saying about Liverpool F.C.).

Now, a few positives which I see currently for Liverpool F.C as a club, as a football team and especially for us, the fans:

1. Liverpool are yet to draw a game in the league. Put it this way: Liverpool are yet to come across the phenomenon which proved to be the bane of their title hopes last season.

2. Of the five defeats, how many defeats were there in which Liverpool got out played by the opposition? Opening game against Tottenham may be, against Aston Villa? The game against Chelsea was not at all a bad game, infact Liverpool were the better team for more than three quarters of the game. Sunderland and Fullham defeats are just what I call ‘came at the wrong place, and at the wrong time’. One can debate at this point, but if you look as a Liverpool fan (be biased) you’ll surely be able to get some positives out of these games: Liverpool didn’t played ‘badly’, nor did they oppositions ‘over powered’ Liverpool, it was just ’something’s missing’ which caused the team to slump.

3. We have a better squad than we had last season. Surely its not as good as what is required by a team who’s challenging the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal (and this season, Tottenham, Manchester City too). Lucas Leiva (tell me one Liverpool fan who didn’t hate him last season?) has improved by leaps and bounds, Benayoun is much better than last time, Torres is available most of the time to last atleast 45 minutes or so a game and is in fiery form. Mascherano is doing his job well and with the addition of Aquilani, surely things are to improve even further (read: I’m not saying Liverpool will go on a winning streak with Aquilani leading them to a win every match). Defense is still somewhat behind and needs working but things are much much better than last season: Liverpool haven’t conceded from set pieces (something they did, ALOT last season).

4. Benitez is calm, quite and focused this season. Something he wasn’t last season. Last time this was the case, Liverpool won the Champions League, the FA Cup, and reached the Champions League final.

Now this is what I think we fans should be thinking. I’ll give you people my own example:

Why did I become the fan of Liverpool? Summarized answer to this is that I appreciated the traditions associated with the club, it’s history, culture and heritage. Now I add one more thing to this: I call it “The Liverpool Mentality”.

Liverpool F.C. is a football club that has a somewhat different culture, which is centered around a very important word ‘belief’. Not many clubs in the world rely on this attribute, and all of us know, Liverpool F.C. owes its entire history and record to this word. I’ll quote a few lines of our anthem here for all to read once and remember what we rely on the most:

When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never, ever walk alone.

This anthem portrays and urges everyone associated to the club to never stop believing. No matter how tough the circumstances! We all know the club and the team has been in far more worse conditions than those that surround us today, and we’ve come out of them bigger, better and confident.
Example: UEFA Champions League 2005, FA Cup 2001 etc.

The team ranked 15th out of 16 in bids to win the Champions League defeated the favorites (remember the final and the Gerrard celebration after his first goal? That’s belief) and came out champions, with the squad not even remotely close in quality of what it is now.

I can go on and on with this, but Liverpool fans are special. Yes we are, because we’re different from others. We didn’t became fans to count the millions invested in clubs by owners, nor did we become fans in the love of players like Lampard, or Beckham, or Henry. We’ve associated ourselves for the club, it’s history, the belief, mentality, style. Nor did we got attracted to the shining ‘triplets’ and ‘quintuples’ to become fans. yes trophies, awards and records are important, but they never make or break a Liverpool fan!

Lastly, I would just say, please don’t loose hope. Being sad doesn’t means one has lost hope. Everyone gets sad to see our boys work so hard and then loose, but then again,

Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart

That was what was in my heart, now I’ve shared it with you all. Kindly join in because we’re different, we’re special and our club is, still, the best! And we are still the loudest!

You’ll Never Walk Alone!
Liverpool F.C. for Life.

Last week the blogger got 5 out of the 10 results spot on. This week we have a big north london derby as the blogger is back to give an insight on what is gonna happen this weekend.

1- ARSENAL VS TOTTENHAM

Arsenal threw away the points last week against westham after getting to half time two nil ahead. Tottenham on the other hand also suffered from lack of clinical finishing as they lost at home to a tough stoke side. This football match however is not an ordinary one. The hate and despise between the two clubs is massive and the atmosphere on match day is electrifying. The emirates faithful will get behind the gunners and i suspect the home advantage may be the lift arsenal need to gun down the spurs.

MY CALL: ARSENAL 2-1 TOTTENHAM

2- BURNLEY VS HULL CITY

Hull city’s manager Phil Brown in under almighty pressure to produce the results. In all fairness since last december hull’s form has been nothing more than pathetic. Their opponents burnley suffered their first home defeat of the season last weekend and i expect them to bounce back this time around as it might be Brown’s last game in charge of hull city.

MY CALL: BURNLEY 2-1 HULL CITY

3- FULHAM VS LIVERPOOL

Liverpool turned over the champions manchester united last weekend with a performance to cherish. Gerrard is still a doubt for this one but torres is fit and is scoring goals for fun at the moment. Fulham recovered brilliantly to get a 2-2 draw at the eastlands but this liverpool side might be just too hot to handle for them.

MY CALL: FULHAM 0-2 LIVERPOOL

4- BOLTON VS CHELSEA

Chelsea returned back to the top of the league last weekend with a 5 goal thrashing of blackburn rovers. A general consensus is developing that chelsea are the team to beat this season as they look to have all the ingredients for winning the league. Bolton are tough, physical and workaholic but that might not be enough in front of a classy chelsea side.

MY CALL: BOLTON 1-3 CHELSEA

5- PORTSMOUTH VS WIGAN

Portsmouth got hit by a transfer ban in the mid week and things got a lot more gloomier at fratton park. I still however, believe they can survive relegation as they dont have players any worse than teams around them. Wigan under Martinez are functioning very well picking up points and scoring goals. However this might be a tricky one a home win for me.

MY CALL: PORTSMOUTH 2-1 WIGAN

6- SUNDERLAND VS WEST HAM

Sunderland are playing very well under the new manager Steve Bruce and although Cattermole is out for long they still have the potent strike partnership of Bent and Jones that has goals in it. West ham on the other hand dont score many only 11 this season so far, 2 of which came last week as they came from behind to steal a point against arsenal. I think it will be another draw for them.

MY CALL: SUNDERLAND 1-1 WESTHAM

7- EVERTON VS ASTON VILLA

Finally Louis Saha is fit and scoring goals for everton but they still are struggling at 14th position on the table. Villa their next opponents are in good form having already beaten chelsea and liverpool this season. This however will not be an easy fixture for either of them as i think both teams will cancel each other out. A score draw for me.

MY CALL: EVERTON 1-1 ASTON VILLA

8- STOKE VS WOLVES

Stoke city should serve as a role model for all promoted sides in the premier league. They dont try to play sexy football and they don’t try to be fancy but what they do is play direct, physical football and they have mastered that art. Wolves are also very well organized and might try to copy the stoke model but this weekend i expect a home win for stoke.

MY CALL: STOKE CITY 2-0 WOLVES

9- MAN UNITED VS BLACKBURN ROVERS

Both teams lost last week away from home. While blackburn got thrashed 5 nil at stamford bridge united came unstuck against their bitter rivals at anfield. But the thing about Man united is they always bounce back and this is a perfect fixture to do so. Against a weak blackburn team in front of the home crowd at Old trafford i expect them to stroll to a comfortable home win.

MY CALL: MAN UNITED 3-0 BLACKBURN

10- BIRMINGHAM VS MAN CITY

Birmingham for the first time tried to play attacking football last weekend as they defeated sunderland at home. But i don’t think Alex Mcleish will be adventurous again against a very dangerous manchester city side. Mark Hughes was left fuming as city drew with fulham after taking a two goal lead last weekend. I think they will bounce back by an away win this time around.

MY CALL: BIRMINGHAM 1-2 MAN CITY

5 : Liverpool 3 – 1 Manchester United – November 2001

United being a defending champion of premier league, went to the Anfield with a hope of reminding Merseyside outfit that we are the champions. As liverpool had beaten United in the community shield match, the energy of united fans were very high to take revenge from the reds. Micheal Owen gave Liverpool a lead in 32nd minute and then an amazing free kick from John Arne Riise gave a 2-0 lead to Liverpool in 39th minute. David Beckham reduced the Liverpool’s lead in 50th min but Owen sealed a win for Liverpool just after 1 minute of Beckham’s goal.

4 : Manchester United 2 – 2 Liverpool – October 1995

Frenchmen Eric Cantona came back from a suspension due to his misconduct with crowd at Selhurst park . Some great performances in the match steal the show, Nicky butt of United opened the score sheet from a pass from Cantona but Robbie fowler of Liverpool passed peter Schmeichel twice in a great fashion to gave Liverpool the lead. But a 71st minutes penalty equilser from Cantona made it 2-2.

3 – Manchester United 2 – 1 Liverpool – January 1999

This was United’s great and dramatic victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, It was the Manchester United’s treble season. Livepool were set to seal victory in this FA-Cup clash to progress to the fifth round. Owen gave Liverpool an early lead and Liverpool kept them selves strong to keep United goal less but that strong hold remained till 88th minute. Qwight Yorke first leveled the scores just 2 minutes before the injury time and after that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s late goal sealed the victory for United, its was one of best FA cup clash between the two rivals with stunning comeback from United and it sent United through to the fifth round, and United won this FA cup as well.

2 : Liverpool 2 – 2 Manchester United – May 1999

United knocked out Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round earlier in January and Liverpool were anxiously waiting for this match at Anfield. Remember that United and Arsenal were racing for the title this season with both having points very close to each other. So as the match started, United looked like a fully controlled side as goal from Yorke gave them a lead before Irwin scored the second goal from penalty spot in 56th minute to make sure that United will win. But Jamie Redknapp gave Liverpool fans a life when he scored on a controversial penalty to pump up the Anfield, Irwin received a red card which gave mersysiders more hope of winning match and finally former United ace Paul Ince with one minute remaining scored an equiliser. Which gave both teams 1 point. And united went to clinch the title from Arsenal by just 1 point at the end.

1 : Liverpool 3 – 3 Manchester United – January 1994

This was unarguably the best game between the two rivals. Some great goals and performances and a great comeback from Liverpool made this match more memorable in premier league history. Liverpool who held the crown of leagues for years were looking for a comeback but United managed to defend the premier league title. Steve Bruce, Ryan Giggs and Denis Irwin gave United an early lead of 3-0 but Liverpool kept their head’s high in the game and fought brilliantly till the end and in front of the kop, Nigel Clough scored twice to make it 3-2, and then superb header from Neil Ruddock made it 3-3.

Soccer is ‘the beautiful game’. Played, loved and watched by billions all over the world. Undoubtedly known as the ‘world’s game’ its best club competition is the UEFA champions league. With millions of dollars at stake and billions of viewers worldwide every goal scored in this competition is important but I have tried to pick five stand out goals scored since 92-93 after the competition was renamed as uefa champions league. The impact of these goals is stupendous not only on the players who scored it but on the millions who watched as well. So get ready for million dollar ride.

5- BASILE BOLI VS A.C MILAN

MARSEILLE VS A.C MILAN

FINAL 93, MUNICH, GERMANY

Basile boli, now a politician had the greatest moment of glory in his life when he popped up from defence to take a header from a corner and slot it past Rossi in the Milan’s goal. If one has a look at the two sides in that final the milan team on paper was head and shoulders above the marseille. With the likes of Van Basten, Rijkaard and Maldini the milan team was supposed to steam roll the marseille side. It is exactly the reason why this header by Boli is extremely important as it not only won the champions league for marseille but it also meant that milan lost when nobody expected them to.

4- LIONEL MESSI VS MANCHESTER UNITED

BARCELONA VS MAN UTD

FINAL 2008, ROME,ITALY.

The importance of this goal is not only to the club of barcelona and its fans but also it is the most important goal for Messi the person. Before the big date in Rome the match was being labelled as the Ronaldo vs Messi fight. People who thought Ronaldo as a better player said Messi just cannot head the ball. But around the 70 minute mark the little wizard from argentina not only rose above the giant structure of ferdinand but also rose above the giant status quo against him. Barcelona went on to win the final 2-0 which completed their treble season since the won the domestic league and cup titles as well.

3- STEVEN GERRARD VS OLYMPIAKOS

LIVERPOOL VS OLYMPIAKOS

GROUP STAGES, ANFIELD,LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND.

For starters let me say this liverpool went on to win the champions league that season after scoring 3 goals in the greatest champions league final ever. So the question is why this goal from the group stages? The answer is simple had gerrard not swung his gifted right foot the way he did against olympiakos there was no way that liverpool could have got anywhere near that champions league title. It was only after this goal that people started to believe that liverpool can do well in this tournament. Needing 3 goals in the second half after conceding from a rivaldo’s freekick liverpool scored two scrappy goals but still needed the third. Then as they say ‘COMETH THE HOUR COMETH THE MAN’. This goal is also famous for famous english commentator Andy Gray. See and listen for yourself.

2- SHERINGHAM AND SOLSKJAER VS BAYERN MUNICH

MAN UTD VS BAYERN MUNICH

FINAL 99, CAMP NOU, BARCELONA, SPAIN.

People might call these goals as tap ins, but the importance and dram attached with these goals is unquestionable. Losing one nil till the 91st minute and then it all changed in 90 seconds. United took 13 years under ferguson to reach the final of the europe’s premier football competition and once they were their they needed game intelligence of teddy Sheringham and the super sub Ale Solksjaer who came on as a sub and scored the most important goal of not only his life but may be of the most important goal of united’s european history. Enough said i guess.

1- ZIDANE VS LEVERKUSEN

REAL MADRID VS BAYERN LEVERKUSEN

FINAL 2002, HAMPDEN PARK, GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.

Yes this is another winner from another champions league final. But its not just another winner in just another european final. Madrid were playing their 3rd final in 5 years and the match was tied at 1-1 when roberto carlos lobbed in a hopeful ball from the left wing area. As the ball reached within Zidane’s range he struck the most beautiful left footed volley the competition has ever seen and that too at the biggest stage. The three time world player of the year rose to the occasion and won Madrid their ninth european cup.

Soccer players are superstars. Everywhere they go they get welcomed by crazy football fans. But some footballers don’t always get the courtesy. Below is the list of five bad boys of football.

5- CRISTIANO RONALDO

(PORTUGAL AND REAL MADRID)

Let me begin with by saying this guy has exceptional footballing talent. He has got just about everything that a footballer needs to be a legend. But unfortunately he is still boed at most away venues. First reason is, that many consider him a cry baby. Second, some consider him a diver. Third, most consider him extremely arrogant. Fourth, he has been involved in some off field incidents even being accused of rape (a dishonest charge ofcourse). Fifth, just because he is Cristiano Ronaldo people despise him and don’t like him. Nice start to the top 5 i guess.

Well he is a husband to one of the most beautiful known faces on earth. That earns him a lot of abuse from the fans which he at times hasn’t taken nicely. Also a furious character he is always involved in dissent related issues with the referees. Most famously at white hart lane, where after cynically fouling Alan Hutton, referee Mark Riley yellow carded him but he showed disgraceful attitude turning his back on the ref and shouting abuse. He was also involved in a transfer saga between arsenal and chelsea. He left arsenal in controversial circumstances which had people hating him in north london.

3-MARCO MATERAZZI

(ITALY AND INTERMILAN)

Materazzi as we know is an italian centre back who plays for inter milan at the club level. A giant 6 foot 4 inch structure that is not really revered by all. His ill time tackles and constant ill will with strikers is known to all. But i know you all remember him for his alteration with arguably the greatest footballer of all times Zinedine Zidane. First he pulled the shirt then he abused the three times fifa world player of the year’s sister. Then he got the head butt which resulted in Zizou’s red card that according to many decided the fate of the 2006 worldcup final.

2-JOEY BARTON

Well Joey Barton is one hell of a controversial character. He has been jailed and charged of affray as well. He has been involved in bust ups and brawls with team mates like Osman Dabo which resulted in scars and face injuries to Dabo. He was involved in a

brawl in a night club with a reserve team member Jamie Tandy. He was accused of putting cigar’s ash into the eyes of the poor Jamie. He called the all time leading goalscorer in premierleague history Alan Shearer a “Shit manager” while being a player of Newcastle united where Shearer is second only to God. Enough said i guess.

1- ROY KEANE

(REP OF IRELAND AND MANCHESTER UNITED)

The former captain of republic of ireland and manchester united had a unique distinction of being loved only around old trafford. Everywhere else he was regarded as the bad boy. He himself once admitted to “excessive drinking” , the reason behind his short temper. Although extremely successful on the pitch with some very nice guys like Ryan Giggs but he still was very controversial. The biggest controversy arised when he got kicked out of the irish squad just after landing in korea-japan for the 2002 world cup by Mick Mcarthy now the manager of wolves. He will also be remembered for his malicious tackle to which he admitted to himself on man city player Alf-Inge Haland which broke his leg and later ended his career. The video below shows just why he wasn’t loved.
